Plan 9 had ended and how could any movie possibly top the madness of Ed Wood Jr. Well, Pam Grier was in town with Coffy and, goddammit, she was going to try her best...

1:20 AM. Pam Grier in "Coffy," definately one of the most entertaining blacksploitation movies ever committed to celluloid. Coffy is upset because her sister is strung out on junk...so she goes on a personal (almost Bronsonesque) quest to destroy all junkies. Here she is about to blow off somebody's head with a shot gun.
Music is really important in these movies and while the soundtrack was not as great as "Superfly" or "Shaft;" there were some good tunes. One "Coffy" song was used in Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown." Doctors and nurses at a hospital scene from Coffy.
Mike Ross was getting in touch with his inner Coffy by cheering on Pam Grier with chants of "Coffy gotta do what Coffy gotta do!" A little electrician's tape and Brendan Gardiner was transformed into the mysterious villain from "Coffy" (who had an eyepatch built into his glasses.)
Here is Brendan hitting on some of the lovely ladies at a party in "Coffy." I don't think I'm going to use this photo as a headshot. The bandages were for my burn wounds I got from Coffy. She mistakenly thought I was "King George;" the pimp from the movie.
Coffy had it all-- violence, music, nudity, a catfight with Caesar salad... One of the best of fest. Here Brendan reinacts the scene where his celluloid counterpart gets hit by a car. I grabbed two flashlights (to simulate the car) and he replaced himself with a dummy (yes, somebody brought a dummy) at last minute. Our reinactment was only slightly worse than the movie version. It's tough to sleep after having too much "Coffy" but this movie: "Can Hieronymous Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness" made me seek slumber as refuge. So weird (in a '60s LSD flashback sort of way) I can't even begin to explain it.
4:00 AM Many people started to hunker down for some sleep. I slept through most of The Slime People, The Lonely Lady, Test Tube Babies (I saw some of this one) and The Corpse Grinders. I have seen most of those before and I am getting old...so I felt I could sleep through these films.
10:00 AM. So, now we go to the morning and I can't think of a better way to start the day than with some Breakin-fast! This movie is fresh! It's the story of a young, white, female dancer (Special K) who falls into the world of breakdancing. A story as old as time itself.
Pictured above is Ozone and Turbo the two breakers that team up with Special K to turn the local breakdancing community on it's ear! Here is myself (on phone,) Chad Fifer, Brendan Gardiner (portraying the dance studio pole) and Mike Ross acting out the montage sequence where Special K, Turbo and Ozone work on their act while I (as their manager) get on the phone and try to get them booked.
This year treats included Jarritos, Heath Bits, Matt's cookies... ...and of course Pringles, Right Crisps (Sour Cream and Onion.)
Noon. Next up was Battlefield: Earth. This one was tough because the sfx are ok and it is really loud (so it's hard to fight back.) Don't get me wrong: the movie is pretty bad. Barry Pepper tries his heart out though.
2:10PM. This is from "Tarantula", which actually wasn't so bad. The spider effect was pretty scary and not as bad as other movies.
Sleeping smiling Susan.
Mike Powers kicking back and enjoying Tarantula. Dave Stinton (left) biting his nails nervously at the end of Tarantula. Chad Fifer prays for a happy ending.
3:30 pm. In what has become a new B-Fest tradition, this year's Hammer Films entry was "The Mummy (1959)." This British horror factories take on the old story of Uhm-oh-tep featured Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (of course.) Here's Christopher Lee as The Mummy. He was pretty scary (for B-Fest anyways.)
Cups, plates, garbage.
4:50 pm. In the home stretch now! Here is a scene from Godzilla 2000 where a truck attempts to drive away form Godzilla. It succeeds somehow.
Brian Fazio makes his appearance and grins contentedly at the specticle of B-Fest. This is some sort of pod that eventually spawned Godzilla's enemy.
This is Godzilla hiding out backstage...Susan is hiding under her sheets.
The humans used iMacs to study Godzilla and find the mystery behind his mutation.
This is an aged Godzilla accepting a lifetime achievement Academy Award for his body of work. Earlier Chad Fifer and Godzilla acted out a gripping scene from his method acting days.
B-Fest over. Time to clean up.
Paper plates all over the place.
And here is the whole gang....ready to get Carmen's Pizza.
11:30 PM. Later at Mike Powers' apartment, Chad Fifer is flabbergasted (and jaundiced) to hear of all the questionable things (ex. with the inflatable Godzilla) he did at B-Fest. Mike Ross reads something besides movie credits or a B-Fest schedule.
A photo with a flash. Ross talks about how "Coffy" changed his life...and how "Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?" changed it back.
A photo without a flash (I like that better.) I took a lot of dumb pictures trying to figure out my new camera...like this one.
Now, time for deep, dark sleep. END.
