Impressions:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0As I’ve mentioned before<\/a>, I’m not\u00a0big on country music– mostly because of modern commericalization of the country style– but, when in the mood,\u00a0this collection of cryin-in-your-beer, vintage country from Ms. Lynn is\u00a0completely aggreable. “Wine, Women and Song” is a perfect introduction to her basic style. It’s all there: tasty, classic countryfied instrumental backup, her straightforward, yet singular voice and sharp lyrics. \u00a0 Tough, lived-in songs \u00a0about cheating men, drinking and heartbreak\u00a0that fit like a good pair of jeans. Okay, I love “FIST CITY!” How come I’ve never heard this song before!?!? Love the simple, autobiographical cut “Coal Miner’s Daughter” about Butcher Hollow, KY. Just hit after hit, no filler and a\u00a0few nice duets with Conway Twitty (“After The Fire Is Gone,” “As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone.”) \u00a0Speaking of that last song, sonically, even the phone conversations sounded cooler back then! I also, love the plinky piano and pedal-steel guitar that floats throughout the singles. Maybe young high-school-me wouldn’t have quite dug this but now it feels like hanging out in a perfect country dive bar, where everything (beer, peanuts, music,) is in the right place.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
