Björk, Post

Impressions: Ah yes. The uncategorizable Björk. With that 808 bass and big Zeppelin beat, “Army of Me” is such a big splashy epic opener. Really gets the blood going. What I like about Björk is that most of her songs each have their own mood, style and set of rules and each song is different like a separate little aural movie. “Your rescue squad is exhausted.” She’s a mad genius or at least just bonkers. I love it. She can go from ass-kicking to hushed and delicate in (“Hyperballad.”) These songs seem un-coverable. Production is a tiny-bit dated here and there (“trip hop,” anyone?) but her voice and singular vision holds everything together. Really imaginative. Great headphone album. Sure why not a big band cover of “It’s Oh So Quiet.” I like that she does whatever the hell she wants and okay, maybe not the best technical speaking, but she gets a lot of her breathy, accented voice. Especially in the trippy, atmospheric almost dub “Possibly Maybe.” Some this album gets a little dodgy like “Cover Me” but the album never derails. I still like!
