RS #375 – Jackson Browne – Late For The Sky

#375

Jackson Browne, Late For The Sky

Release Date: 1995
Previously Owned: No
First Time Listen:  Yes

This is a soothing album cover. By Source, Fair use, Link

Impressions: Well, Mr. Browne...we meet again. I was pleasantly surprised by For Everyman. but didn't quite dig The Pretender. So, let's put on the tie-breaker ... Title track sounds a little closer to "For Everyman," so far, down-the-middle '70s soft-ifornia rock. Slow start. … Continue Reading ››

RS # 391: Jackson Browne, The Pretender

Jackson Browne The Pretender

Release Date: 1976
Previously Owned: No
First Time Listen: Yes

"Oh Jackson, I’m sorry the ’60s had to end" by Source. Licensed under Fair use via Wikipedia.

Impressions: I was surprised by how much I liked his previous album on this list. Let's see if he can keep it up... "The Fuse" is tasteful, well produced, but kind of a bore. I can see how people got tired of this stuff in '76 and … Continue Reading ››

RS #473: George Michael – Faith

"A quick sniff test will determine if I need a little Speed Stick."

George Michael, Faith

Release Date: 1987
Previously Owned: No
First Time Listen: Yes

Impressions:  After being subjected to way too much Wham! on the radio/MTV,  I mostly passed on George Michael's solo career at the time.  I don't actively hate him, but I'm not coming at this album as a fan.  Let's get this over with...."Faith"  is a snappy Bo-Diddley/Elvis pop confection that is actually not bad. Actually kind of promising start. Then, we get "Father Figure," it features lots of "production." Same with "I Want … Continue Reading ››

RS #487: Cyndi Lauper – She’s So Unusual

#487

Cyndi Lauper, She's So Unusual

Release Date: 1983
Previously Owned: No
First Time Listen: Yes

Let's not get carried away... she's only 'somewhat' unusual.

Impressions:  Ah Cyndi, I was numb to your music when this album came out, as your hits were so hard to get away from. Radio. MTV. Commericals. I couldn't even find refuge in pro-wrestling because you'd show up there too! Let's give this a listen... Not a bad guitar-driven opening number, "Money Changes Everything" almost sounds like Psychedelic Furs or New Order-ish (although it's two minutes too long.) "Girls Just Want To Have … Continue Reading ››
